New look yet again...

Felt kinda tired about the look of my blog, and I decided to go with a
more minimalistic approach to blogging. I also forgot about my
traditional website look and put the sidebar at the right -- this way
people get to read the post first before other things regarding my
blog. In case people didn't notice, the last time I used the right hand
sidebar was with the first time I used the blog. I don't know why I
prefered having the sidebar on the left, when it's a known fact (or
concept) that english and thus the first thing you read is usually at
the left side of the page/sentence/word. Unless of course you look from
the right to your left, which is something I wouldn't want to talk
about anytime soon.

I definitely like the new look now, however I might consider using a
different color scheme, knowing that my favorite color is blue, and the
best shade for me would be grey. I'm not sure if that last statement
made sense, but I remember someone telling me that black/white are not
colors, rather degrees of shade -- black being the haviest shading,
while white would be the lack thereof. I also remember from high school
science wherein the techer would repeatedly cite the visible light
spectrum, and that the combination of all the light colors/frequencies
consisted white light, while the lack thereof would be black.

In any sense, I wouldn't want to get technical about color, but I have
just been starting with the technicalities of my thesis. I've recently
finished coding the prime number finding application with the MRADA
algorithm -- take note, coding. I'll be testing the thing around monday
when I finally start completing my deficiencies in college -- to make
up for lost time, I would have to work 3x smarter than I would if I had
taken care of those things in the outset. Anyhow, I believe I could get
throught these things ASAP, since I don't like rotting in this dung
hole I call the Philippines.

I've also been able recently to complete (or at least accomplish most
of the things regarding) my thesis' methodology. I should be able to
print it tomorrow and have it proof read by my adviser on Monday. On
the same day I should be able to gather all the notes I will need to
complete my Chapter on related literature. By the end of the month I
should have a semblance of a manuscript ready for the scrutiny of the
people at our institute. I should also have been able to run the tests
on the ASTI, ICS and the AGILA cluster. On which time, I should also be
able to tell whether or not I would be able to accomplish everything by
the 3rd of september of this year.

Until that time, I should get working.

I'm currently fleshing out a fantasy setting for a series of short stories rattling in my head that I'd like to get out into the world. However, it's the first time I'm even trying to do this, so I need your help: are there any good resources for world-building and writing guides that have been helpful in your projects? So far I've been really enamoured by Brandon Sanderson's world building and Patrick Rothfuss' storytelling. I suspect those two are at the pinnacle of the trade and I'm probably not going to do myself any favours by trying to live up to what they're doing, but I'd still like to give it the good college try. Are there any resources (forums, books, guides, blogs, or courses) that I should be taking if I want to do a decent first take at this? This is probably better as an email to friends and maybe some random folks (or maybe even a tweet) but why not a blog as well?

Reconnecting with people

2021 started with a a good sense of connection for me, having spent time with friends and family in a simple celebration of the oncoming year. The transition from 2020 to 2021 and being able to look back at a good part of my recent history got me thinking about how life has been for me and the family for the past decade. There’ve been a lot of people that I’ve met and become friends with while there are those that I’ve left behind and lost touch with. There’s a saying about treating old friends different from new ones, which I do appreciate now that I’m a bit older. Six-hour workdays for focus and productivity

Sometime in 2018 I experimented with a strict 6-hour workday. I negotiated this with my manager who at the time said it was worth the experiment. The idea would be for me to be at the office by 10am and be out by 4pm. This didn't preclude me from continuing to work while I was in the train, or at home. It was an experiment where I can remember some good and bad parts and this is a post looking back at that time. Ruthless prioritisation The first thing I needed to do as an individual contributor was to ruthlessly prioritise all the tasks I have to accomplish. This meant I had to put a budget on the amount of time I'm spending doing certain things. Additionally this meant I needed to remove  all unnecessary meetings from my calendar.
